Amazon took my young adult book off their digital shelves. No explanation - just a link to their cover guidelines. Am I supposed to guess why? It has nothing to do with copyright; everything's legit. That leads me to believe that Amazon is censoring my cover because of the pretty young girl with her shoulder showing.
It isn't any secret that Amazon (and Kobo too for that matter) have been stripping erotica shelves bare. Of course, I see that Fifty Shades of Grey is still available for purchase. However, this post isn't about erotica - someone else can blog about that. My post is about this young adult book being ripped off the shelves for no real apparent reason. I emailed them asking why, but of course I need to wait the standard 24 - 48 hours for their response. I cannot sell my book. To me this is urgent. If I can't sell the first book in my trilogy, then I won't be able to sell the second book in my trilogy (that cover shows a man with a bare arm. I hope he's not next). It's so urgent to me, but to Amazon - not so much. The only way I can contact them is through email. I searched everywhere - no phone number to be found. So now I must sit and wait...and fume. That's why I am writing this blog. I need to vent. I need to let you all know my feelings on this matter. And I would love to hear your feelings on the matter as well.
Has this happened to you...or anyone you know? It reminds me of that episode of The Brady Bunch - You Can't Fight City Hall. I can't fight Amazon. But boy I wish I could!
This link was shared with me by a friend. It may explain why they are doing what they are doing, but they end up targeting innocent victims.
So now I wait. I wait for a response from Amazon and hope I can rectify the situation. Hopefully it's as simple as uploading a new cover - if I can access my account...which currently I cannot.
Thanks for listening. Please feel free to vent to me as well.
Since writing this post, Amazon has put my book back up. They did not present me with an explanation, but I am glad it is back up. Thank you all for your support.
